THERE’S MORE IN STORE FOR CHAMPIONS OF FAITH
EXECUTIVE PRODUCER MAKES EWTN DEBUT TO DISCUSS LANDMARK SERIES
BIRMINGHAM, AL, April 1, 2008 – Tune in this Thursday, April 3, 2008 at 8:00 pm ET, as Tom Allen, President of Catholic Exchange and Executive Producer of the multi award-winning film Champions of Faith: Baseball and its brand new companion film, Champions of Faith: The Bases of Life, makes his debut appearance on EWTN’s Life on The Rock to discuss the Champions of FaithTM film series.
Champions of Faith: Baseball, the 2007 film that many have called the most powerful Catholic film since The Passion of the Christ, revolutionized the genre of the sports/faith film and created tremendous interest in the faith lives of American sports stars. So Allen spearheaded the release of Champions of Faith: The Bases of Life to go deeper into the players’ prayer and sacramental lives. “The Bases of Life is a unique film,” Allen says. “By going inside the home and family lives of Mike Piazza and Darrell Miller, and by going inside St. Andrew’s and St. Patrick’s Cathedral in New York City – even into the crypt where Archbishop Sheen and Cardinal Cook are buried – we really get to the essence of what being Catholic is all about. This film is a teaching tool that both entertains and inspires.”
For the past seven years Allen has served as president of Catholic Exchange, a leading Catholic media organization formed as a direct response to Pope John Paul II’s call for a Springtime of Evangelization. During that time, he also provided Mel Gibson’s Icon Productions with over $10 million in distribution expense financing for The Passion of The Christ, produced Morning Air with Jeff Cavins, and co-authored the million-selling A Guide to the Passion: 100 Questions About The Passion of The Christ.
Allen’s career in Catholic media began with a private meeting with Mother Angelica at the EWTN studios in Birmingham in 1999, at which he received her encouragement and blessing. So his debut appearance on the Global Catholic Network represents something of a “return to his roots.” “Mother Angelica provided me with direction at a critical point in my life,” Allen explains. “Her zeal for spreading the Gospel and giving the Church a voice in the culture has been an inspiration to me. My daughter Angela (born later that year) is named after her.”
